"In 1824 Turnor founded a National School in Colsterworth run under the principles of Scottish educationalist Dr Bell, which also served nearby villages and parishes of Stoke Rochford, Skillington, and Woolsthorpe.

The school included a school room and an adjoining house and garden for the schoolmaster"

Colsterworth was the birthplace of Sir Isaac Newton - or at least the adjoining hamlet of Woolsthorpe.

The church of the St John the Baptist is a mixture of Norman, Early English, Decorated and Perpendicular work. The chancel though is by James Fowler in 1876.

The Victorians with their usual sensitivity installed an organ which largely obscured a Newton family monument and sundial carved by Isaac at the age of 9. There are plans to remove the organ

The octagonal font has part fifteenth century stem with panels containing sacred symbols and floriate designs, and also twelfth century billet moulded blank arcading the panels filled with fleurons and trefoils.

Isaac Newton was baptised in this font January 1642.

A memorial slab stone of 1684 to William Walker, Vicar of Colsterworth & Master of Grantham School.

He wrote a book on grammar titled ‘A Treatise of English Particles’ & became known as ‘Particles’ Walker. The inscription translates as ‘Here lie the particles of William Walker’ and is attributed to his friend Isaac Newton.
