St Peterís stands close to the River Trent, and was built in 1846 by T Johnson in Early English style.

It has double-skin walls constructed of stone on the outside and brick inside.

An unusual feature of St Peter's is the south-east tower with its octagonal belfry and spire. This was badly damaged by an earthquake on 27 February 2008.  (The earthquake's epicentre was near Market Rasen and had a strength of 5.2 on the Richter Scale.)

The spire and belfry have subsequently been repaired.
