St Mary’s was built by James Fowler in 1863 to replace an earlier church. The style throughout is Early English.

Fowler gave the porch a steeply pitched roof.

The chalk chancel has lancet windows and there are paired lancets to the nave.

All windows have decorative stonework round the arches.

The three-stage tower has plate tracery at the belfry stage and carries a sturdy broach spire.

The Society for Promoting the Enlargement, Building and Repair of Churches and Chapels was formed in 1818 and incorporated in 1828.

Fotherby received a grant of £65 in 1861 (the church was completed in 1863).

The interior is red brick with stone bands, with two-colour brick round the arches in typical Fowler style.

This view looks towards the west and the tower arch in which medieval masonry has been used.
