The medieval house on this site was occupied by Katherine Swynford.
The eighteenth century house shown in this drawing, dated 1793, by Nattes for Sir Joseph Banks was demolished in the mid-1800s.
More details about this house and its owners can be found in T R Leach and R Pacey's book, 'Lost Lincolnshire Country Houses: Volume 2', published by SLHA. Buy a copy.

The present Kettlethorpe Hall was built for Weston Cracroft Amcotts of Hackthorn in the 1863.
T R Leach Collection, 1972

"Small country house. Early C18 incorporating earlier masonry, with extensive alterations and addition of c.1863 ...
The medieval house on this site was the home of Katherine Swynford, wife of John of Gaunt. The early C18 house was built by the M.P. Charles Hall who succeeded to the house in 1713. It then passed to the Amcotts family, and a copy of the design for the marble fireplace in the dining room is held in Victoria and Albert Museum, inscribed for Charles Amcotts"

Kelly's Directory 1919 reads :-
"The church of SS. Peter and Paul is an edifice of white brick, rebuilt in 1809, consisting of chancel, nave and an ancient embattled western stone tower containing 3 bells; the upper portion of the tower is Perpendicular:
the stained east window was inserted in 1874, in memory of the Rev. George James Atkinson, rector from 1836:
there are two other memorial windows, and several mural tablets, one of which, in the east wall of the chancel to John Becke, priest, is dated 1597:
a new organ, font and pulpit have been presented to the church ; the latter, of carved black oak, is probably of the 16th century, and of French workmanship:
there are 250 sittings"

White's Directory 1872 has :-
"The Church (St. Peter and St. Paul) is a plain brick edifice, consisting of nave, chancel and square tower; and the living is a rectory, valued in K.B. at £28, and now at £580, in the incumbency of the Rev. George James Atkinson, M.A., who is also vicar of Torksey, and has a good residence here. The tithes were commuted for allotments of land, at the enclosure of 1767"

"The base of the cross, which is largely medieval, includes three steps of square plan now supported by a shallow concrete plinth.
Resting on the top step is the socket stone, a single block, square in section at the base, with moulded and chamfered corners rising to a top of octagonal section.
Fixed into the socket stone are the remains of the medieval shaft, rectangular in section at the base and rising above moulded and chamfered corners in tapering octagonal section to a height of 1.29m.
Set onto the top of this fragment is a modern shaft with an integral cross head, which takes the form of a gabled cross with a carving of the Crucifixion on the west face"

Local signage states that "Some years ago Mrs. E.G.C. Amcotts of Kettlethorpe Hall was holidaying in Brittany France, and was attracted to antique shop when she saw outside a dirty looking pulpit for sale.
Although the pulpit was covered in paint and stucco, on closer examination it proved to be a beautiful carved pulpit of the renaissance period, early 16th century.
Mrs. Amcotts told the dealer she would buy it if he could clean it without damaging the carvings , dealing with the condemnations of Christ and the supreme tragedy of Calvary.
The dealer assured her it could be done and at the end of seven days the pulpit was ready for use, the true beauty of the carvings and wood (black oak) having been revealed.
Mrs. Amcotts was very surprised at the quick way the cleaning had been accomplished and asked how it had been done.
She was even more astonished when told the pulpit had been left in the river and the natural motion of the river had done the necessary work"
