On 10 January SLHA (Stewart Squires)  participated in a "drop in day” in Nettleton when local residents shared their memories of the Nettleton mines and viewed historic photographs and other material.

The Society provided a bookstall and information point at an Open Day on 31 January for the forthcoming Lincoln University College of Science and Engineering (UTC) in the former Christ's Hospital Girls' School on Lindum Road, Lincoln.

On 10 May a group of 30 were taken by Martin Hollingsworth on a walk round Kirton in Lindsey to view sites of former industries in the town.

Special events were held in many parts of Lincoln over the weekend of 13 and 14 June the celebrate the signing of Magna Carta in 1215.

Poor weather forced the story teller (Jack Klaff, dressed as Old Father Time) to give his performance in the meeting room at Jews' Court.

The 2014 Flora Murray Award for an outstanding project in history or archaeology was made to The Grantham Hall Book.

John Manterfield, editor and project leader, received the award at the SLHA AGM on 13 June.  He is seen here 2nd right.

An SLHA Award for Excellence was received by Geoffrey Wheatley (2nd left) on behalf of the Spirit of Sutterby project.

Mark Bennet's retirement as editor of Lincolnshire History and Archaeology, the SLHA annual journal, was marked at the AGM on 13 June.

Mark was presented with a framed picture by Lincoln artist, Phil Bowman.

On the morning of the Society's AGM on 13 June a conducted tour of St Denys's church, Sleaford, was given by Douglas Hoare.

The group of members is here standing in front of the renowned north window in the transept, an outstanding example of tracery of the Decorated period.

The Society outing to Heckington on 20 June began at the unique 8-sailed windmill and included a tour of the mill, brewery and station museum.

Graham Saunders of Hull University gave an entertaining talk entitled "Music and the Wesleys" at Spilsby Methodist Church on 11 July. This was the annual Brackenbury Lecture (regrettably not at Raithby this year), attended by members of SLHA, Lincolnshire Methodist History Society, Spilsby Methodist Church and the Tennyson Society.

The annual Terence Leach memorial lecture was organised jointly with the Burgh le Marsh Heritage Group and took place at the Windmill on Saturday 5 September.

Short presentations were given on Jabez Good, local barber, wood carver and polymath (by Eileen Chantry), and on Lincolnshire Churches - especially redundant and demolished buildings (Fr. Terry Steel).

The SLHA book 'Effluence and Influence: Public Health, Sewers and Politics in Lincoln: 1848-50', written by Dr Dennis Mills, was launched at Bishop Grosseteste University on 3 October.

The special guest to perform the ceremony was Patrick, Lord Cormack.

* George Giles, a prominent civil engineer, devised the first underground sewerage system for Lincoln.

On Wednesday 14 October Dr Andrew Walker gave an entertaining and informative talk on horse racing in Lincoln to an audience of SLHA members in St Hugh's Hall, Monks Road, Lincoln.

This was the latest of the monthly open lectures and presentations arranged by Society in the City.

Stewart Squires led a 4-mile walk in and around Woolsthorpe looking at canal, railway and ironstone mine features.

Stewart was "flying the flag" for SLHA at the South Lincolnshire Walking Festival.

The IA team at SLHA organised a well-attended day conference on this topic in Sleaford on Saturday 14 November. Talks were given about both historic aspects and current developments of water transport in every corner of the county.

SLHA members in Lincoln were treated to an excellent buffet meal followed by entertainment from Far Welter'd, the East Lincolnshire Dialect Society on 2 December. Poems, readings and amusing stories were given by Alan Mumby and colleagues.
