As Lincolnshire's leading history society we aim to recognise the endeavours and achievements of local groups, societies and individuals in the fields of Lincolnshire history and archaeology.
To achieve this, SLHA has introduced an awards scheme. There is one annual award called The Flora Murray Award*. This consists of a cheque for £200 and a framed certificate. In addition, an occasional award will be granted at the Society's discretion called SLHA Award for Excellence. This will consist of a framed certificate. Winners of both awards will receive good publicity across the county.
Groups and individuals are eligible to receive awards. Groups must be operating within the historic county of Lincolnshire. This restriction does not apply to individuals. Academics or professionals working in industry, e.g. archaeologists, will be eligible providing their work pertains to the County.
Suggested projects suitable for entry to the scheme are published books, exhibitions, lectures, educational facilities and village trails but other projects, as long as they focus on the history and archaeology of the County, are also welcome.
Applications for an award must be made on an official application form by either the applicant directly or by a third party with the potential recipient's permission. Download an application form here.
A panel consisting of senior SLHA postholders will judge nominations. The decisions of the judging panel will be final. The Society reserves the right not to make any awards in a particular year.
The presentation of the 'Flora Murray Award' will be at the Annual General Meeting of the Society in June. The 'SLHA Award for Excellence' will be presented at a convenient time and venue.
The closing date for applications for the 2011 'Flora Murray Award' is 29 February 2012.
