"This Hospital and School were erected in the year 1727 by Jane Dymoke Widow of the Hon. Charles Dymoke of Scrivelsby Esq Champion of England and endowed by her will and a yearly salary to a School Master and Mistress for teaching all the poor children in the Parish of Hemingby to read write and work and with competent provision of clothing for six of the said children and for putting some of them Apprentices and also yearly allowance for four poor widows Inhabitants of the County of Lincolnshire is appointed in her will"

Former school, at the end of Mill Lane, now the village hall. 

"The school was originally founded as a Free School by Mrs Jane Dymoke in 1727.

It was known as Hemingby Hospital School by 1903.

From the late 1940s senior children were transferred to Horncastle.

The school appears to have been closed on 17 July 1970"

"In April 1969 a public meeting was held to discuss the possible closure of the small village school.

Unfortunately the closure went ahead and in 1974 the Village Hall Committee purchased the building for £1,000"

St. Margaret's church, Hemingby, was built in 1764 and was largely restored in 1895 by William Scorer.

The tower dates from the later period.

Former telephone kiosk now used to house a defibrillator.

"In 1935 the K6 (kiosk number six) was designed to commemorate the silver jubilee of King George V.

It was consequently sometimes known as the "Jubilee" kiosk. It went into production in 1936.

The K6 was the first red telephone kiosk to be extensively used outside London, and many thousands were deployed in virtually every town and city, replacing most of the existing kiosks and establishing thousands of new sites.

In 1935 there had been 19,000 public telephones in the UK: by 1940, thanks to the K6, there were 35,000"

"A List And Brief Details Of Chapels In The Horncastle & Bardney Circuit Past And Present" prepared by Colin Shepherdson & Anthony EG Whiting September 1997 states :-

"i) A Class was formed in 1781 and a chapel built in 1797 in what is now Chapel Lane. It is now a much extended house called "Sunnyside" and about 100 metres from its replacement.

ii) The second chapel was erected in 1859, also in Chapel Lane, and the last service was held on the 26.6.1977. The chapel, a Grade II listed building, is now in use as an organ builder's workshop"
