This small church was built of greenstone in 1811.

It was made redundant in 1973 and for some years was used as a store, but by the turn of the century was abandoned and overgrown.

This view from the north-east, with the rendered vestry (a late addition) in the foreground, shows the building smothered in ivy.

The intersecting tracery of the 3-light east window is typical of c.1300.

The semi-circular headed doorway on the west front is in late Georgian style.

Unusual features are the ornate traceried fanlight and the cusped moulding at the door head.

The entrance never had a protective porch but before decay and damage spoilt the building there were double doors with upper semi-circular headed panels inside.

Five years of general decay and unchecked growth of vegetation since the previous photo of the doorway have had a significant effect.

Low Toynton's font can now be found in the Church of All Hallows, Clixby.

"Font is C15 and imported from the church at Low Toynton (Lincs.). Octagonal in shape with in arcades round the stem figures of saints. The bowl also octagonal, and in the square side panels are angels, a Tudor rose, other flowers and pairs of figures"

The entry in White's Directory of Lincolnshire 1856 for Low Toynton states :-

"The Church (St. Peter) was rebuilt in 1811, and has a very curiously sculptured font"

The pulpit is made of stained pine. It is clearly a nineteenth-century piece but it is uncertain whether it is the original pulpit (i.e. about 1910) or a later replecement.
