All Saints, Mareham-on-the-Hill, can be found through a farmyard. It is medieval with the nave and chancel all in one.

Last restored in 1804 it contains box pews and a two-decker pulpit.

The entry in Kelly's Directory 1905 reads :-

"The church of All Saints is a small and very plain edifice of local green sandstone, consisting of chancel and nave and a small wooden bell-cot containing one bell:

during the repairing of the church in 1804, two nobles of Edward IV. two angels of Henry VII. and several silver coins in a leather purse were found in the wall:

there are 60 sittings"

All Saints viewed from the south.

The black-painted timber windows are a strong contrast to the whitewashed masonry. Excavations carried out in1985 revealed that the medieval nave was broader and had a south aisle. The present nave wall and windows date from 1804. The steeple was taken down in 1780.

The church is Grade II* listed: see

The recent whitewash does not hide the mix of Spilsby sandstone and brick used in the building and maintenance of this delightful small building.

A very serviceable boot scraper, screwed to the wall at each end and carried on a vertical support onto a flat stone; a similar design to the one at Wesley’s chapel, Raithby by Spilsby.

The box pews date from 1780. The chancel has recesses showing a blocked window each side. The east window is a pointed fifteenth century opening. A hatchment is suspended on the south wall.

This view shows the simplicity of the interior, particularly the brick floor. The white-painted ceiling gives a brightness too.

This view shows the roadside, northern gable end of the chapel. The brickwork betrays that the lower part of the windows have been blocked. [Might the brick piers be original?]

"Mareham-on-the-Hill Wesleyan Methodist chapel was built in 1853, with money left by one Zach(ariah) Goe*. The chapel closed at some point between 1956 and 1970, when it is no longer labelled as such on the OS maps.

The building is of red brick and has a gabled roof, with decorative barge boards on the eaves. It has segmental-headed window arches, dressed with rubbed brick. The west elevation has had a garage door installed.”
