Kelly's Directory 1930 lists only the Chequers Inn which closed 1974 although there is mention of a beer retailer "Start Chas. beer retlr".

"Mention of an alehouse in the village occurs from 1796 when an annual application for recognisance is made and by 1823 this takes the name of The Chequers ...

Until 1974 there were two public houses in the village, The Chequers and The Fox and Hounds"

Built in 1862 by Michael Drury*, though the arcades are medieval (12th and 14th centuries).

The steep pyramidal tower roof is unusual for a Lincolnshire church.

* Michael Drury (1832-1881) was born in Lincoln and apprenticed to W A Nicholson. He became the Lincoln City Surveyor in 1868 and was instrumental in the creation of the city's long-overdue sewerage scheme ten years later. Reepham is one of the few churches he worked on

Kelly's Directory 1919 reports :-

"The church of SS. Peter and Paul is a building of stone, partly in the Early English style, consisting of chancel, nave, north aisle, south porch and a large embattled western tower with pinnacles and spire containing one bell:

the church was restored in 1862, under the direction of Mr. Michael Drury, architect, when the tower and north aisle were rebuilt, a new porch erected and the nave roof retimbered, at a cost of £900, of which the Mercers' Company gave £300:

there are 230 sittings"

The Church Guide relates that :-

"The tower was rebuilt during the 1862 restoration. Previously much lower and with a shallow pitched roof, the tower was heightened to match the new higher nave roof and the spire added.

The same founder as the Guildhall bell of Lincoln made the single bell, which is of the date A.D. 1371. The Latin inscription was cast by mistake in reverse, and translates as "Blessed be the name of the Lord. The bell was rehung in 1936.

The church clock dates from about 1740, and was restored, given, and put up by the Rev. Arthur F. Sutton, Rector of Brant Broughton, in 1892. The clock face dates from the installation"

The chapel was celebrating its centenary when this image was taken - the banner reads "A YEAR OF CELEBRATION / CENTENARY & MISSION".

In "A List And Brief Details Of Chapels In The Lincoln Circuits Past And Present" prepared by Colin Shepherdson (Revised October 2000) it is stated that :-

"i) A house was licensed for worship in 1811 and the first chapel built in 1842. This chapel was sold following the opening of the new chapel and, for a period of time, used as a reading room. The chapel was finally demolished in the 1960's.

ii) The foundation stone for the new chapel and Sunday school was laid on the 24.10.1893. Situated in the High Street, on the corner of Chapel Lane, the buildings were opened on the 21.3.1894. The chapel is still in use with a membership of 32"

One of the foundation stones dated Oct. 24th 1893.

"Joseph Bennett (1829 - 1 January 1908) was an English merchant and Liberal politician.

Bennett was born at Grimsby, the son of William Bennett and his wife Ann. He was educated at Wesley College, Sheffield and became a merchant at Louth. He was a J.P. for Lindsey Division of Lincolnshire, and for the Boroughs of Louth and Grimsby.

In the 1885 general election, Bennett was elected Member of Parliament for Gainsborough but lost the seat in the 1886 general election. He regained the seat in the 1892 general election but stood down from the House of Commons at the 1895 general election"
