Dating from 1737 this small country house is built in red brick with painted ashlar dressings. It has hipped slate roofs with dogtooth eaves and 3 lateral stacks.

The central doorway on the south elevation has a columnar porch with entablature.

The single hipped dormers have plain sashes which flank a central open pediment supported on a pair of consoles and containing a keyed oculus.

The small chapel on the east side of the A17, known as Saracens Head or Whaplode Washway Chapel, was built for the Wesleyan Methodists in 1825. It closed in 1971 and was demolished in 1998.

The fine tower of St Mary's dates from the early thirteenth century, with parapet and pinnacles two ceturies later.

The large church of St Mary at Whaplode is built of limestone, some ashlar and some rubble.

The late twelfth-century bell tower attached stands to the south.

The south-west buttress contains a stair turret.

Semi-circular headed chancel arch of c.1140 with inner roll moulded order, chevroned, double fish-scale and diamond outer orders, supported on scalloped corbels and slender outer shafts with scalloped capitals.

Surrounding the east doorway to the tower is a blind arcade consisting of '5 pointed, chevroned arches supported on moulded capitals with shafts and moulded bases.

The font dates from c.1250 and was partially re-cut in the seventeenth century. It is supported by four columns with spiral decoration and central larger plain shaft.

The octagonal bowl of the font has been re-cut with flutings.

The large, canopied tomb to Sir Anthony and Elizabeth Irby has painted recumbent effigies and is surrounded by a wrought iron railing.
