The school originally opened in 1818 and re-opened as a board school in 1877. It closed in the summer of 1995.

The Primitive Methodist Chapel, also know as the Bethel Chapel, was built in 1875-76.

It closed for worship in 1988 when the two Methodist congregations in the village combined.

Much of St Helen's, Willingham-by-Stow, dates from 1880.

There is a small Norman window in the tower, a blocked Transitional north doorway and a chancel arch possibly from the late seventeenth-century.

The east window was gifted by rector the Revd Lord Hawke, father of Martin, Lord Hawke, stalwart of Yorkshire County Cricket Club and President of MCC.

The restoration of 1880 was carried out by F S Brodrick and R G Smith. Brodrick was the nephew of the more famous architect Cuthbert Brodrick of Leeds.

Because of the churchyard trees and bushes - and the proximity of the road to the north - it is difficult to get a clear view of the church except from the south-east.

Kelly's Directory 1913 has :-

"The church of St. Helen is an edifice of stone in the Decorated and Perpendicular styles, consisting of chancel with organ chamber, nave, south porch and a western tower with pinnacles, containing 6 bells, hung in 1905 at the expense of R.C. Bacon esq.:

the nave dates in part from the 11th century and the tower from the 14th: and there are mural monuments to the Peel and Dymoke-Wells families, and a stained east window to the Hawke family:

the body of the church was rebuilt in 1880, at a cost of £2,000, by the late Mrs. Reynard, in memory of her husband, the Rev. William Reynard M.A. a former rector:

there are 200 sittings"

Church guide notes state that :-

"The stained glass east window is a memorial to the Hawke family. The Revd. Lord Hawke was rector here from 1853 to 1874. His son, however, was perhaps better remembered for his cricketing prowess, having played for, and captained Yorkshire, and then gone on to play for the MCC"

White's Directory 1872 reports "The Church (St. Helen) is a neat fabric, with a massive tower. The rectory, valued in K.B. at £18. 6s. 8d., and now at £532, is in the patronage of B. E. Hawke, Esq., and incumbency of the Rt. Hon. and Rev. Ed. Henry Julius, Lord Hawke, who is also vicar of Coates, and has a good residence near the church"
