Bardney Sugar Beet Factory was built in 1927 alongside the GNR line from Lincoln to Boston (to the east) and the river Witham (west).

It ceased processing beet in 2011, though parts of the plant are still used for bulk storage of sugar and also for sugar refining.

The sugar beet factory at Brigg, one of 18 run by the British Sugar Corporation, opened in 1928 and closed in 1991.

It was sited close to the New River Ancholme and the Sheffield-Cleethorpes railway about a mile south-west of the town.

A gas-powered station, now operated by Centrica, was built on an adjacent site in 1993.

Mill, next to the former Nocton & Dunston Station, at the railhead of Nocton Estates Light Railway.

Potatoes arrived direct from the fields, via 23 miles of narrow gauge railway, and were transshipped to the standard gauge railway for onward delivery

Nocton Estate was bought by its main customer Smith's Crisps in 1936.

Some of the rolling stock and track was acquired by the 'Lincolnshire Coast Light Railway' when the narrow gauge potato railway gave way to road transport by about 1960.

"Built in 1890 by Charles Sharpe and Company, international seed merchants, it was used until 1962 as a pea-sorting warehouse.

Again saved from dereliction by Heckington Village Trust in the 1970s.

It was restored as a craft, heritage and tourism centre, which is how it remained until the lease expired in 2000.

It then reverted back to the local landlord, who converted it into the gated flats you see today"

The Smith's Potato Crisp factory was built in 1937.

"Smiths was later owned by biscuit company Nabisco, BSN and finally sold to American company PepsiCo in the 1990s.

Subsequently, Pepsico withdrew the brand, in favour of popular British brand Walkers, which had been heavily marketed in a campaign using ex-footballer turned television presenter Gary Lineker.

Many of the products previously owned by Smith's became labelled as Walkers, although there are still several Smith's branded crisps sold by Walkers"

The Smith's Potato Crisp factory was built in 1937 but is now largely dedicated to the production of Quavers.

"Quavers are a British snack food, originally made by Smiths, and now produced by Walkers.

Walkers, owned by PepsiCo, purchased the Quavers brand in 1997, when it became one of the Frito Lay International brand names"
