The primary school in Hatton opened as a National School in 1864 and closed in 1951, with children transferring to schools in Baumber and Wragby.

This stone fragment, now resting close to the south door of the church, was part of the medieval building replaced by James Fowler.

St Stephen's was built in 1870 by James Fowler, replacing the medieval church.

Built of red brick with bands of stone, this small building has an apsaidal chancel and a south-east bell turret and spire.

Kelly's Directory 1930 reports :-

"The church of St. Stephen, built in 1870 is an edifice of red brick with stone facings, in the Early English style, consisting of chancel, nave, south porch and a small spire containing one bell:

a brass tablet in memory of the men of Hatton who served in the Great War was placed on the north wall in 1920:

the church contains a list of the rectors from the year 1221:

there are 150 sittings"

"The Church (St. Stephen), is a neat structure, rebuilt in 1871, and containing a stained glass east window, by Clayton and Bell"

Inscription reads " IN MEMORY OF HUMPHREY WALDO SIBTHORP RECTOR OF HATTON DIED NOV 4 1865"

The present church was built in 1870 by James Fowler. The previous church is described in White's Directory 1856 as "a small antique fabric".

"Steeply gabled south porch with single east and west trefoil headed lights. Squat gabled angle buttresses. Pointed doorway with inner chamfered order with head and jambs in one, outer order with chamfered jambs and bowtell moulded head, hood mould and ornate label stops. Blind plate traceried oculus above. Interior south doorway with pointed head, chamfered surround, hood mould and dove and squirrel label stops"

The chapel on Mill Lane - actually just inside Minting parish - was built by the Wesleyan Methodists in 1838; they extensively modified the building in 1892.

The last service was held in 1979.
