This simple brick chapel was erected in 1701.  Originally thatched, the roof was tiled in 1847.

Regular worship ceased in the 1970s but occasional services are held.

It is owned by the National Trust.

The open air baptistry or font at Monksthorpe was last used in 1972.

It is said to be one of only two exterior total submersion fonts in the country.
