The Wesleyan Methodists built this chapel in Newton by Toft (for Toft by Newton too) in 1858 and enlarged it in 1886. It closed in 1970.

Windows of the Early English period have been retained in the north wall of the nave. The line of the north arcade of similar date can still be traced.

A second view of the south side of the church. Despite Fowler's restoration the window of the Perpendicular period in the nave has survived. Likewise the thirteenth century window in the south wall of the chancel.

St Michael's, Newton-by-Toft, is a church ideally sized for its community.

Though mostly the work of Fowler of Louth in 1860 it retains a Norman chancel arch.

The remains of the lost Early English north arcade can be seen.

There are two late C13 stone effigies: the man, William, is 29 inches long, the lady, Helaine, measures 24 inches.

The bellcote over the west gable of the church is entirely Fowler's confection.
