Erected on Boston Road between Rose Cottage and farm buildings, this chapel was in use from 1871 to 1935.
After sale of the building in 1937 it was converted to a store shed for the adjacent farm.
It is located at NGR TF 396 544 in Old Leake parish
Barry Barton, 1980

The old chapel building is now in a dire condition and is no longer in use.

The date plaque above the entrance. It was inscribed 'Wesleyan Chapel 1871' but is no longer legible.

The White Hart pub in the centre of the scene is still open. The building to the right containing Hammond's grocery is now (July 2023) disused & boarded up.
Unposted postcard by Raphael Tuck & Sons Ltd.

This is one of several great marshland churches but in the Decorated style rather than the usual Perpendicular.
Parts of the original Norman nave survive. There is an early Georgian pulpit, an old alms box and tiled Victorian reredos.
Mark Acton, 2011

This tower mill, which stands near Chapel Road, was built in 1859.
Jon Sass Collection, undated photograph

The cap and sails on Howsham's Mill were removed in 1950 and the tower was slightly reduced in height.
Location of mill: TF 398 522
Peter Kirk Collection, 2002

This 'mission' church was built in 1875.
Barry Barton 1980

Primitive Methodists erected a chapel in 1839 and then built a new chapel behind it in 1881.
Closure occurred in 1946 and the buildings were sold the following year. Both former chapels are used as farm store sheds today.
They are located at NGR TF 403 517
Barry Barton, 1978

Built in 1815, this is one of the oldest surviving Methodist chapels in the area.
A Sunday schoolroom was added in 1839 and the chapel enlarged in 1871.
It is located at NGR TF 401 520.
Barry Barton, 1980

"A List And Brief Details Of Chapels In The Boston Circuit Past And Present" prepared by Colin Shepherdson October 1996 (Revised August 1998) states :-
"i) A chapel was erected in 1806.
ii) The second chapel was built in 1814/15 in what is now Chapel Lane. A new school was opened on the 22.12.1839 and the chapel enlarged in 1871. The schoolroom was rebuilt in 1971 and the chapel is still in use with a membership of 16"
Unfortunately the chapel subsequently closed in 1999. Judging by a Google Street View image taken July 2009 the chapel was for sale but in poor condition.
Postcard postmarked 1905

It seems that the former chapel stands redundant and has not been redeveloped for an alternative use.
September 2021

Date plaque high on the gable end of the chapel marking the date of the extension (1871)
