A rare surviving 'tin tabernacle'. Christ Church was built in 1893 to the design of A. C. Wood, architect of Grantham.

It is the 'winter church' to Sempringham. It has heating; Sempringham doesn't.

The north aisle of the church has recently been renewed, again in corrugated iron, but with modern corrosion protection.

Kelly's Directory of Lincolnshire 1919 states :-

"POINTON is a pleasant village and towship, on the road to Bourne and three-quarters of a mile from the Abbey church, from which it is separated by fields; the bulk of the inhabitants of Sempringham parish live here.

Christ church, an iron structure, was opened in 1892, and there is also a Wesleyan chapel"

The core of this building was originally a National School erected in 1863. With modern extensions and additions it is today's St Gilbert of Sempringham CE Primary School.

Kelly's Directory of Lincolnshire 1885 states :-

"National School (mixed & infants), Pointon, built in 1863, at a cost of £500, raised by subscription: the school will hold 150 children ; average attendance, 84 ; & is supported by a Crown donation of £25, government grant & a voluntary rate & school fees ; attached to the school is a parochial library of about 180 volumes; William Hornby, master; Mrs. Emma Hornby, mistress"

Date stones visible at the front of the school.

The initials J.C.K.S on the 1863 date stone belong to The Rev. J.C.K.Saunders.

Kelly's Directory of Lincolnshire 1885 states "The Rev. J.C.K.Saunders, during his ten years residence in this parish, was instrumental in building a good vicarage house, and the school at Pointon, and in procuring the restoration of the abbey church"

An infants' schoolroom was subsequently added in 1892 at a cost of about £200.

Pointon lies 7 miles north of Bourne. It is part of the parish of Pointon and Sempringham.

The parish church is the isolated St Andrew's at Sempringham. A "tin tabernacle" was built in Pointon in 1893 as a Chapel of Ease.
