Crosby is one of the five parishes which make up the urban area of Scunthorpe

St George's is a large red brick (English Bond) building of 1914-24 by H C Corlette*, who also built St Paul's church at nearby Ashby.

There are tall lancet windows throughout and a bellcote at the east end of the south aisle.

Apart from some contrasting limestone dressings, the church is disappointingly plain.

Kelly's Directory of Lincolnshire in 1919, before this church was built, stated that

"CROSBY, formerly a township, which for ecclesiastical purposes formed part of the parish of Scunthorpe, but became a separate parish in 1913, and is a rapidly growing centre"

"There is a temporary church building, opened in 1908, and seating 250 persons.

The living is a vicarage, net yearly value £371, with residence, in the gift of Sir Berkeley D.G. Sheffield bart. and held since 1913 by the Rev. Charles Usher Wilson.

Plans for a church to seat over 1,000 persons have been made, and a vicarage has been been built"

The church dates its anniversary from 1925 which must have been the date of the first service.

Kelly's Directory of Lincolnshire 1937 states that

"The church of St. George, Crosby, erected in 1924 at a cost of £12,000, consists at present of chancel and nave : it has 560 sittings.

The living is a vicarage, net yearly value £544, with residence, in the gift of Sir Berkeley D.G. Sheffield bart D.L., J.P. and held since 1928 by the Rev. Basil Lewin Greeson L.Th. of Durham University"
