Designed by James Lewis in neo-classical style, Hackthorn Hall was built in the 1790s for John Cracroft, replacing an earlier house.

Seen here is the north entrance front with its semi-circular Ionic porch. The parish church of St Michael can be seen in the background.

Inside, rooms are grouped around an oval staircase hall lit from above.

Hackthorn has been the seat of the Cracroft  family since the early 17th century.

John Harris (in the Pevsner guide) describes Hackthorn Hall as a square Yorkshire stone of restrained detail. It is of the Georgian period (1792) in neo-classical style.

This view shows the south and west fronts.  Noteworthy are the five bays and the alternating straight hoods and triangular pediments on the ground floor windows, which overlook the lawn and lake to the south.

Hackthorn Hall was designed by James Lewis, son-in-law of John Cracroft the owner, and built 1792-95.

The view from the south over the lake shows the closed proximity of house and church.

The end of the lake and the weir at Hackthorn.

The lake is to the south of the Hall in the fine landscaped park; it tapers to the east to deliver a small stream which then feeds into Dunholme Beck, Barlings Eau and finally the River Witham.
