Kelly's Directory 1930 reports :-

"The church of St. Wilfrid is an ancient building of stone in the Norman, Early English and later styles, consisting of chancel with north aisle or chapel, clerestoried nave of two bays, north aisle, south porch and a western tower of Early English date, with Perpendicular parapet and pinnacles, and containing 5 bells :

the north aisle is Late Perpendicular, and opens into the chapel on the north side (apparently built by the Hussey family in the reign of Henry VIII.) by a single arch :

in the church is a monument of stone, with figure, to William Smith esq. ob. 1551, his wife, a daughter of Augustine Porter, of Belton, esq. and six children ;

in the pavement of the chancel is a huge grey slab, formerly commemorating a priest, part of whose effigy remains, but over this is now a brass inscribed to John Hussey esq. ob. 1587, and Elizabeth, his wife :

the nave was restored and reseated and the interior of the tower restored in 1873, at a cost of about £500 :

the chancel and belfry were restored in 1889, at a cost of £634, of which £400 was contributed by Miss E. Moore, of London :

there are sittings for 120 persons"
