The picture depicts six round barrows of the Bronze Age cemetery at Bully Hills (TF330826). A seventh barrow lies some distance away from this group.

All are in a NE to SW line with one of the barrows clearly larger than the others - 60ft (18m) diameter and 10ft (3m) high.

This barrow seems to have been excavated or at least disturbed in the past, hence the central dip.

St Vedast's was substantially rebuilt in red brick in the eighteenth century using Flemish bond. It was restored in 1857 by James Fowler of Louth.

The base of the tower (of Greenstone) is Norman and there is similar material from a slightly later period in the tower arch inside.

The timber framed porch with brick nogging is the work of James Fowler (1857 restoration).

Vedast (died c. 540) was an early bishop in the Frankish realm.

He was venerated in Belgium as well as England (from the 10th century) where he was known as Saint Foster.

The spread of his cult was aided by the presence of Augustinians from Arras in England in the 12th century.

Three ancient churches in England (in London (St Vedast Foster Lane), Norwich and Tathwell) were dedicated to him.

His feast is on 6 February.
